The split floor is becoming very popular wherever dancers gather. The idea is that while most of the dancers are doing the dance that goes with the music, a beginner dance is provided that beginning dancers can do to the same music.
Beginning dancers really love the split floor. It keeps them dancing--not watching. Others do not like have to teach/learn the extra dances or the confusion caused by two groups doing different dances at the same time--especially near the split.
Since the instructors want to be able to change the music when hosting a regional jamboree, care must be taken that the split-floor dance will also go with the music chosen.
Please understand that this does not mean that you have to do a split floor at your Jamboree. This is entirely your decision. Split-floor dances should be used at the New Mexico Line Dance Jamboree. Anytime split-floor dances are done, always use the state-approved, split-floor list shown on this page.
Please do not change the split-floor dance. It should be danced as listed below. Tags and restarts should be done as indicated.

Fool in Love, A Restarts on Walls 2, 4, 6 after 32
Explanation of Tags and Restarts:
Bonaparte's Retreat - Restart on Wall 4 after 16 counts. Same place as in Bonaparte's Retreat - after "Bagpipes".
Fool in Love, A - Across the board. Everyone will do the restarts together on Walls 2, 4, 6 after 32 counts.
Lay Low - Ignore restart. On the 9th wall (3rd time at 12:00), do the first 16 steps (diagonal steps), then insert the 4 raindrops tag and continue with the Charleston steps and the rest of the dance.
Note:
Cowboy Strut - Will be done as a 2-wall dance as written on the stepsheet. Do not use the 4-wall option.
Note: If you feel that your Beginning dancers can do the jam dance without the split-floor, then teach them the dance and let them do it. I suspect that most of you are already doing this.
